Description

Pidurangala is a massive rock located a few kilometers north of Sigiriya in Sri Lanka. It has an interesting story that is closely related to the rock fortress of Sigiriya. The rock of Pidurangala is more difficult to climb than the Sigiriya mountains. It is worth it if you are fit and entrepreneurial. It takes you about two hours.

When King Kashyap visited Sigiriya, the rock of Pidurangala was used as a Buddhist monastery. The monks originally lived in the Sigiriya caves. But the Kashyapas asked him to go to Pidurangalu so that they could build their fortress on Sigiriya. It was called the Pidurangala Vihara, which means the Pidurangala complex.
